Want to get an early start on your baseball season?   Roy Hobbs Baseball is sponsoring a wonderful tournament in Tuscon, AZ  over the Presidents’ Day weekend.   This is a First Class event. 

The tournament will be played on the Major League spring trainning faciilities of the Arizona Diamond Backs.  There will be a minimum of 5 games. 

A very special feature of this tournament will be the useage of the Major League dressing rooms which will be the site of the Kangaroo Court. 

There will be 2 divisions:  A 38 yr. old division and a 55 yr old division.  The 38 yr. old division can have 3 players of 35 yrears of age but will not be eligible to pitch.  The 55 yr. old division can have 5 48 yrea old + but can not pitch.

I strongly endorse this tournament and it will be one of the best experiences that you will have the opportunity to share.

You can either field a complete team or you can sign up as individuals and will be placed on an existing team.

Players would need to get Friday-Monday off (assuming they already don’t have President’s Day off),  get into Tucson Thursday night (can fly into Phoenix and same car rates are available there as well).  If they take Thursday, they will probably arrive in time to work out Thursday afternoon. The event fee ($525) covers 4 nights (double occupancy) at the Casino Hotel.   A  4-game, probably 5,  guarantee and full locker room amenities, including trainers, laundry service, breakfast every morning at the LR, a cookout dinner and Kangaroo Court from which all the funds go to the Roy Hobbs Foundation.  The fields are 10 minutes from the Hotel, and we plan to supply a van service if players don’t want to rent a car.

The Vallejo Oldtimers will hold their annual crab feed on February 27, 2010 at the Vallejo Post 550 Veterans Hall.  Tickets are $40 each.  We will have a live band, raffle, silent sports memorabilia auction with a bar available to participants.     I have tickets available and if you or anyone else would like to attend please give me a call.  C-707-373-9826  H-707-552-5315

The 2009  Norcal Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 28, at Nick’s Restaurant, 100 Rockaway Beach, Pacifica. No host cocktails begins at 6pm. The induction ceremony will start at 7pm.

If you decide to pay at the door, the price is $44 and you might not get your choice of entree.

I’m sorry to report that Nino Martinez lost his battle with stomach cancer. He passed away Tuesday morning.

The function that the Watsonville guys planned for this Thursday evening will be held as planned. Bill Keller said he hopes that those of you who were planning to attend will still do so.
