There are four sections to most pages:
- Masthead
- Main body
- Sidebars
- Footer
The Masthead has our logo, the site’s name, and tag line at the top of the page. You can always click on the site’s name to go to the home (top-level) page. Under the logo is a navigation bar containing links to the top level “pages” comprising the site.
The Main body has one or more articles (called “posts”). On the home page the most recent few posts from ALL categories will be displayed. On other pages, you’ll see a subset of all the posts. For example, under Old Posts > January 2009, you’ll only see Posts that were dated in that month. Under Categories > Vallejo Oldtimers, you’ll only see Posts that were posted in that Category. You can click on the title of any post to see that post only on a page. This is useful, for example, if you want to print that post.
There are two sidebars. The sidebars contain links to help you find what you’re looking for on the site.
- A search box – Use this to enter a word or phrase that might be on a page or post you’re looking for.
- A list of Pages – Pages are meant to hold “timeless” information, such as this help page. Information from our old site can usually be found on the Pages.
- A list of Old Posts – All of the posts are cross-referenced by date and stored in the archives. If you’re looking for something from a while ago, you can go to the archives to find it.
- A list of Categories – Each post should be assigned one or more categories by its author. We use categories on this site to allow each team to have its own set of posts. If you’re only interested in your own team, and don’t want to wade through everything on the main page, use a link in the Categories section to go to your own team’s posts.
- Baseball sites – This section contains links to those teams that have a separate site. Use these links to go to one of their sites. We also plan to have links to MSBL, Roy Hobbs, and other leagues in this section.
- Site Administration – This section contain links about the site itself. Depending on whether you are registered and/or logged in, you might see “Register”, “Login”, “Logout”, or “Site Admin”. Register, Login, and Logout are pretty self-explanatory. Use “Site Admin” to get to the portion of the site that allows you to create now Posts or Pages.
