We played our first "split-squad" doubleheader on Sunday, April 7.
We lost 8-6 to Lodi in our Norcal game. (The info here is coming out of the scorebook. If you have additional highlights to add, please send them to Denny.) We got behind early, but came back in the late innings. Rod Colvard started the scoring in the sixth. He got a base hit and scored on Brian Jones' double. Zach Jones drove in Brian for our second run. We also got 2 in the seventh. Ron Monks walked to lead it off. Frank Bower singled him to third. Chuck Price hit a sacrifice fly to score Ron. Rod got another hit to drive in Frank. We were down 8-4 going into the ninth. Sal Esposito, Sam Modrall, and Ron led the inning off with base hits. Frank walked. Then, with bases loaded and nobody out, Chuck hit into a home to first double play to cut short the rally. We ended up losing 8-6.
(We didn't keep the book when we were on defense, so we only have a partial line score.)

We won our opening game in TriValley. We beat the Crushers from Santa Rosa 26-14. Our runs came on 21 hits (all 9 guys got at least one hit), 8 walks, and a bunch of Crushers errors. Fortunately, we played good defense. We made a few errors, but also made some very good plays. We got two putouts at the plate. One was on a first-and-third double steal, Bill Jones to Art White and back. We got the second one when Tom Squier alertly ran down an overthrow and gunned the runner who had stolen third at the plate. Denny Brown pitched the first 5 innings and allowed all 14 runs. Phil Montes pitched two scoreless innings before the game was stopped on time limit.Phil and Danny Moore helped bail Denny out with some great catches in the outfield. Art returned the favor to Phil with a diving catch in left.
