TriValley game vs. Yankees on June 1, 2003
We beat the Yankees 12-3.
Julian Lopez pitched 6+ and Denny Brown finished up. We got ahead early with
the help of some Yankee miscues. The Yankees threatened often, but Julian was
able to wriggle out of trouble each time. We played flawless defense and made
a bunch of outstanding defensive plays. From memory:
- Randy Cobb ran down a deep fly in right-center hit by Mike Souza.
- Zach Jones , Gus Manning, and Julian got a 3-4-1 ground out. Zach made a
good move to get to the ball and knock it down; Gus handled the deflection
and fed a perfect lead throw to Julian covering.
- Frank Bower threw out a runner trying to score on a sac fly. Frank to Denny
to Phil Montes at the plate. The play was made possible because Billy Davis
came up lame part way home.
- Jim Gardner made a tough snag on a hot grounder to his left. I can't remember
who hit it.
