Antiques WIN!

The Antiques 55+ team won the Las Vegas Open on Memorial Day weekend!

We opened up with an 18-3 win over the San Diego Veterans on Saturday morning. We beat the St. Thomas Tradewinds 12-11 on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, we beat the Arizona Oilmen 13-6. Then in the last game of the round robin, we lost to the South Dakota Rushmores, 8-0. Our 3-1 record was the top in the division. South Dakota came in second with a 2-1-1 record, edging the San Diego Veterans who finished 2-2. St. Thomas finished 1-2-1 and Arizona was 1-3.

In the finals against the Rushmores, we got behind early 2-0. We scored a run in the bottom of the 4th to get part way back. We jumped ahead in the 5th when Tom Squier hit a two run triple and scored on Steve Brye's sac fly. We took the 4-2 lead into the 9th. The Rushmores battled back and scored 2 runs to tie the score. They had one out and the bases loaded when Jon Westmoreland got their cleanup hitter to hit into a 6-4-3 double play. So we went into the bottom of the ninth tied 4-4.

Dan Rowan led off the 9th with a solid single to right. Ken Overton moved him to second with a slow roller to second. After an intentional walk to Terry Gammill, Nino Martinez played the hero and stroked a solid single to right. The throw home was up the first base line and Dan scored easily.
