Garrett Rezzonico made his debut as a starting pitcher and came out a winner. He went 6 strong innings, giving up only 4 runs. Phil Montes handled the last three innings, holding San Jose to two runs.
We scored a run in the top of the first on Phil's single and Garrett's triple. (You're starting to get the idea that this is a "Garrett and Phil" story.) Garrett struggled in the bottom of the first. But with two runs across, one out, and runners on second and third, Sam Modrall lined a shot down the third-base line. Phil snagged it and doubled off Fred ?? at third to get Garrett out of the inning.
Rod Colvard extended the SJOT lead in the third. He led off with a base hit, stole second, and scored after two wild pitches.
We tied the game in the fourth against SJOT starter Ron Mosley. Mike Rezzonico got hit with a pitch. John Macon, playing his first game as an Antique, stroked a single. Mike scored on Bill Jones' base hit. And John scored on Dennis Romero's sac fly.
The score stayed at 3-3 until the top of the sixth. We scored 3 in the 6th, highlighted by Garret's lead-off double, base hits by Mike and Art White, and Dennis's two-out double. The bad guys got one back in the bottom on base hits by John ?? and Bob Wilms, and walks to Dave Douglas and Ted Francis. But Garrett got out of a bases-loaded jam by getting a K.
We broke the game open with a six-run seventh inning. Denny Brown led off with a single. After three walks, Garrett singled, Mike got hit again (!), John lifted a sac fly to left, and Art singled in the final two runs.
Phil then held San Jose to two runs in the eighth, highlighted by Mike Frangidakis's single, and Fred's triple.
To cap things off, Garrett made a diving catch of a line drive between short and third to return Phil's first-inning favor.
