I’m sorry to report that Nino Martinez lost his battle with stomach cancer. He passed away Tuesday morning.
The function that the Watsonville guys planned for this Thursday evening will be held as planned. Bill Keller said he hopes that those of you who were planning to attend will still do so.
Email me if you would like additional information. dbrown at xs dot com.

The Norcal website has moved to a new host. In the move process, we have lost some of the content from the site. It looks like many posts (some from 2006 and all of 2007) have disappeared.
I think the problem actually happened before the move. I will try to recover the data, but I am not hopeful that I’ll be successful.

The 2008 schedule is now available. See the link in the navigation panel to the right.
Remember, this schedule is NOT official. It is the original schedule from the December, and there might be mistakes. Each team is responsible for its own schedule.

Benicia won its first Nor Cal Oldtimers title with a 11-3 victory over Fairfield at Fitzgerald Field in Benicia. This was Benicia’s third trip to the tournament finals but their first victory. With this victory Benicia finished the 2006 season at 18-1. The lone loss being early in the season to Vallejo at St. Patricks High School. Congratulations to all the Benicia players for a fine season.
The next event will be a team party to be held at the house of first baseman Terry Cunningham on September 23rd.
After the party Benicia players will take a break and will not meet again until December to kick off our 2007 Crab Feed. The annual Crab Feed will be held on February 10th at the BDES Hall. Tickets go fast so contact a Benicia player for tickets early.

Benicia came up with 7 runs in the 1st innings against Fairfield, with 4 walks and 3 errors, before the Major League Pitcher Joe Strong showed up for Fairfield top of the 2nd inning. Joe Strong, former Tampa Bay pitcher came from the airport and held Benicia to 5 runs 3 unearned.?Ǭ† Both teams had 9 hits each, Fairfield had 7 errors and Benicia had solid defense and only 3 errors with good controlled pitching. Fairfield hit 6 deep fly balls one by Todd Hudson bounced over the left field fence and one by Joe that bounced the center field fence,?Ǭ† but to no avial Benicia had speed made good plays and?Ǭ†five double plays and caught the ball.
?Ǭ†RICKY SILVA, was the winning pitcher for Benicia pitching?Ǭ†7 innings giving up?Ǭ†6 hits, 1 walk, no strikeouts. Sam Kayson, got the save pitching the 8th and 9th innings, throwing the good sidearm moving pitches. Sam gave up 3 hits, 1run, 2K, no BB, a good outing.
Vallejo the number 1 seed of Saturday who lost, some of there players arrived at the field and watched from the left field fence in support of the tournament.
There were lots of fans at the park, the field was great, weather was great, new baseballs every 3 innings, Randy Quinn was chief umpire with a total of 3 umpires at the game, there was controversy, hitting, stealing, pickoffs and rundowns, what a great way to end the season for all. A Great Thank you to Benicia and Larry Friel Pres.?Ǭ†for hosting and putting on a great tournament that broke even.
Clyde Jones Sr, MBA
Norcal President
